Today we have a later start from Cairns around 9am where we head south on a path less travelled to see a "birds eye" view of the protected wilderness of the Wet Tropics World Heritage listed National Park. Ascending the range, we arrive at the MaMu Rainforest Canopy Walkway in the heart of the National Park the land of the MaMu people. After morning tea, our guide will take you through this magnificent country and this ancient rainforest inhabited by the MaMu people since the begining of time. From the canopy walkway you will take in the enormity of this beautiful landscape and the North Johnstone River. Stand high in the rainforest with both spectacular cantilever viewing platforms and tower canopy views. Hopefully catching a glimpse of some wildlife as you walk quietly along the elevated walkway.
We then travel east towards the coast to view the Misty Mountains and the souring Mr Bartle Frere, one of Queensland's highest mountains. We arrive at Josephine Falls where we enjoy a short rainforest walk taking us deep into the Falls where our experienced guide will interpret the wet ropical rainforest and the natural flora and fauna. At Josephine Falls we stop and enjoy a picnic lunch in this dense tropical rainforest. If you wish, enjoy a swim in the beautiful tiered waterfalls which drops into several very deep pools over a natural waterslide.
Our final stop for the day is the Boulders Wilderness Reserve on the eastern slopes of Mt Bartle Frere. A constant high volume of water has weathered boulders and ravines in and along the creek bed. The "Boulders" holds a legend from the local Tininji tribe where it is told that the spirit of Aboriginal maiden Oolana dwells within the submerged boulders of the creek. Experience the legend as told by our guide on a casual stroll around the boulder circuit.
We return to Cairns at around 6pm refreshed and rejuvenated from a nicely paced day in the Tropical Misty Mountains
